HANCOCK TRIAL "EXPOSED THE CORRUPTION IN THE POLITICAL AND LEGAL SYSTEM"
"Seeing him in court made me realise the bogey man really does exist..."
IN June 2023, former Health Secretary Matt Hancock told a court he had never heard of the benzodiazepine drug Midazolam until a man in the street mentioned it while asking him questions in January of that year. But Hancock had been shown on video in April 2020 discussing supplies of the drug with Dr Luke Evans MP. This is perjury. Hancock never stood trial. Instead, he took the man in question – Geza Tarjanyi – to court claiming he assaulted him while he followed asking those questions. Hancock won. Tarjanyi appealed. But the November 24/25 appeal hearing was changed to a retrial, meaning none of the previous evidence – such as the perjury that showed Hancock had lied and perhaps could not be trusted here – could be used. The judge also claimed to know nothing about the case whatsoever. Here, journalist JACQUI DEEVOY describes her experience of being at the retrial, in close proximity to Hancock and interviews some of those who were in the gallery.
I DIDN’T think seeing former health secretary Matt Hancock in the flesh would be as unsettling as it was but it truly was a most disturbing experience.
It was akin to seeing a nightmare become reality or suddenly realising that the bogey man really DOES exist and was never simply a figment of your imagination.
