Judging on recent events, HMG is not a fan of rational and balanced debate,preferring nudging,censorship,obfuscation and a 'we know best' approach.
Of course, looking back,the rot started in earnest with the Blair government's unannounced de facto open borders policy and the dodgy dossier,WMD and the disastrous invasion of Iraq.
The only way to beat it - do not comply. I do not see any other option.
